佛子!云何為菩薩治地住?此菩薩於諸眾生發十種心。何者為十?所謂:利益心、大悲心、安樂心、安住心、憐憫心、攝受心、守護心、同己心、師心、導師心。是為十。佛子!此菩薩應勸學十法。何者為十?所謂:頌習多聞、虛閑寂靜、近善知識、發言和悅、語必知時、心無怯怖、了達於義、如法修行、遠離愚迷、安住不動。何以故?欲令菩薩於諸眾生增長大悲;有所聞法,即自開解,不由他教故。
“Disciples! What is meant by the bodhisattva’s abode of cultivating mind-ground? This bodhisattva develops ten kinds of minds toward all sentient beings. What are those ten? They are: the mind of altruism(利益心); the mind of great compassion(大悲心); the mind of giving extreme happiness(安樂心); the mind of guiding evil beings to abide in goodness(安住心); the mind of pitying sentient beings who are indulging themselves in idleness(憐憫心); the mind of accepting non-Buddhists and guiding them to develop correct determination(攝受心); the mind of guard sentient beings from retrogression(守護心); the mind of treating those with Bodhi Mind as self(同己心); the mind of treating those who follow great vows or with virtues as teachers(師心); and the mind of being a guiding master(導師心). These are the ten.” “Disciples! This bodhisattva should be encouraged to learn ten kinds of Dharmas. What are those ten? They are: Learning and studying widely; being at ease in quietude to contemplate; closing to benefit friends for further knowledge; speaking in a harmonious and pleasant manner; speaking at the proper time; not being afraid of either the profoundness of Dharma or the difficulty of practice; thoroughly understanding the deep meaning of doctrine; practicing in accordance with Dharma; being far away from ignorance and delusion; and abiding steadfastly in the determination to enlightenment. What is the reason? To make a bodhisattva develop great compassion toward sentient beings and spontaneously understand whatever preaching they hear without depending on another’s instruction.”
