Ten Abodes 十住品 part 11

  子!云何為菩薩法王子住?此菩薩善知十種法。何者為十?所謂:善知諸眾生受生、善知諸煩惱現起、善知習氣相續、善知所行方便、善知無量法、善解諸威儀、善知世界差別、善知前際後際事、善知演說世諦、善知演說第一義諦。是為十。佛子!此菩薩應勸學十種法。何者為十?所謂:法王處善巧、法王處軌儀、法王處宮殿、法王處趣入、法王處觀察、法王灌頂、法王力持、法王無畏、法王宴寢、法王讚歎。何以故?欲令增進,心無障礙;有所聞法,即自開解,不由他教故。

   “Disciples! What is mean by the bodhisattva’s abode of Dharma Prince? This bodhisattva knows well of ten kinds of Dharmas. What are those ten? They are: knowing well of the differences of sentient beings’ receiving births , whether six destinies and four types of birth(六趣四生) or nine receiving births(九類受生); knowing well of all defilements in their state of manifest activity; knowing well of the continuity of habitual energies(習氣); knowing well of the application of all expedient methods in accordance with sentient beings’ roots, understandings, nature, desires and karmas, knowing well of unlimited Dharmas medicine(法藥), as a Dharma master; knowing well of all necessary deportments of preaching; knowing well of differences among worlds they travel around; knowing well of precise time to cultivate, knowing well of preaching the Worldly Truth(俗諦); and knowing well of preaching the Absolute Truth(第一義諦). These are the ten.” “Disciples! This bodhisattva should be encouraged to learn ten kinds of Dharmas. What are those ten? They are: Dharma Prince follows Buddhas to settle on the proper preaching phrases and expedient methods; Dharma Prince follows Buddhas to settle on the proper behaviors and precepts; Dharma Prince follows the teaching of Buddhas and gives his care to all sentient beings; Dharma Prince cultivates and guides sentient beings of verified roots to the entry of suchness without giving up each; Dharma Prince observes both the teaching of Buddhas and the possibility to cultivate sentient beings; Dharma Prince learns the conferring of three conducts-Body, Language, and Mind- from Buddhas; Dharma Prince applies Six Perfections(六度), Four Immeasurable Minds(四等), and all kinds of practice as the power on his cultivation task; Dharma Prince emancipates from Birth(生), Old Age(老), Sickness(病), Death(死), and Suffering(苦), attaining ten kinds of fearlessness; Not only progressing in wisdom, Dharma Prince should live in the state of meditation as Buddhas; Dharma Prince should praise Buddhas’ merits but have pity for sentient beings to whish them to adore the happiness of Nirvana and get rid of the suffering of birth and death. What is the reason? To progress, have no hindrances in mind and understand whatever preaching heard without relying on another’s instruction.” 待續...
